Welcome to Aalestrup School
We welcome children and families who are new to Denmark and to Vesthimmerland.
Starting in a new country and a new school can be a big change. We are here to help you and your child get a safe and positive start.
You are always welcome to contact the school if you have any questions.
Reception classes (modtageklasse)
If your child does not speak Danish, your child will usually start in a reception class.
In Vesthimmerland Municipality, reception classes are located at Farsø School. If you want your child to start in a reception class, you should contact Farsø School.

Vesthimmerland Municipality provides transport to and from the reception class.
Your child will normally attend the reception class for about one year, where the main focus is learning Danish and becoming familiar with school life in Denmark.
After the reception class
After the reception class, your child will move to the local district school, for example Aalestrup School.
We understand that this change can be confusing for families, but it is a planned and important part of your child’s school journey.
We are here to support you and your child during this transition.
Danish as a second language (DSA)
At Aalestrup School, we have trained teachers who provide Danish as a second language (DSA).
Your child will receive support in learning Danish while also being part of a regular class.
Communication and interpretation
We want to make sure that you understand the information you receive from the school.
We therefore use telephone interpreters for meetings and provide interpreters at parent meetings when needed.
Please do not hesitate to ask if you need support in your own language.
Contact and visit
